Liver Stiffness Reflecting Right-Sided Filling Pressure Can Predict Adverse Outcomes in Heart Failure

In this study, 171 hospitalized patients with heart failure (HF) were investigated for liver stiffness (LS) using a Fibroscan device. The aim of this research was to evaluate the association between elevated LS, a reflection of residual liver congestion, and outcomes. The conclusion was that LS is a useful index for assessing systemic volume status and predicting the severity of HF. The presence of liver congestion is also associated with worse outcomes in patients with HF.
