New AASLD Guidelines for Hepatocellular Carcinoma: The Big Questions Tackled

Dr David Johnson, professor of medicine and chief of gastroenterology at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia, talks about how important is to screen cirrhotic patients for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and debates the new guidelines issued by the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) in the January 2018 issue of Hepatology. Adults with cirrhosis should be monitored for HCC by ultrasound every 4-8 months, with or without alpha-fetoprotein (AFP). This is still the best method.
