“Alarming” Increase in Stroke Risk Factors


A study published in Neurology on October 11, 2017, which included 922,451 hospitalized patients for acute ischemic stroke, proved that the conventional risk factors for stroke, like hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, smoking, drug abuse, continue to contribute to the rising risk of stroke events. Also, chronic renal failure, coronary artery disease and carotid stenosis are important factors in increasing the risk. The analysis showed that all risk factors increased from 2004 to 2014, and the prevalence of raised cholesterol more than doubled during this time. (
