On October 31, 2017, an open label-study was published in The Lancet. Dr. Colombel and colleagues have investigated the efficacy of several treatment algorithms for Crohn’s disease, defined as a Crohn’s Disease Endoscopic Index of Severity (CDEIS) score < 4 and no deep ulcers 48 weeks after randomization. 244 patients with active Crohn’s disease were randomized to one of two treatment strategies, after eight weeks of prednisone induction therapy. The result of the study was that patients with Crohn’s disease should be more closely monitored, both clinically and with more objective markers of inflammation.
