Characteristics of Asymptomatic Paroxysmal A-Fib Identified

In a study published in the December 2017 issue of CHEST, there were examined the clinical characteristics and outcomes of asymptomatic versus symptomatic patients with permanent atrial fibrillation (PAF). The researchers came to the conclusion that asymptomatic clinical status is associated with older age, male sex, more comorbidities, with a higher stroke risk profile, and a higher incidence of all-cause death in patients with PAF, characteristics that were not identified in the symptomatic atrial fibrillation group.
