Low Systolic BP Linked to Poor Outcomes in HFpEF

Gregg C. Fonarow, MD, University of California, Los Angeles, and Ali Ahmed, MD, MPH, George Washington University, Washington, DC, authors of a study published on February 14, 2018 in JAMA Cardiology, have found that older patients who have heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and a systolic blood pressure (SBP) of less than 130 mm Hg have poor outcomes. SBP target level should be less than 130 mm Hg for patients with HFpEF and persistent hypertension, according to the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association/Heart Failure Society of America guideline for HF.
