Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) Patients May Benefit From Perioperative Aspirin

At the American Heart Association (AHA) 2017 Scientific Sessions it was presented an analysis about the fact that perioperative low-dose aspirin may reduce the risk of death and nonfatal myocardial infarction after noncardiac surgery in patients who have undergone a prior PCI. The findings were published in the Annals of Internal Medicine and provided direct evidence that aspirin prevents ischemic events, even several years after PCI, irrespective of stent type, and that the ischemic benefit related to aspirin exceeds the bleeding risk.
